Would a commute-time tag make these threads easier to use?

While browsing the Doha board, I kept wanting a consistent way to compare properties by commute time. Valuation and market-report threads often attract the same follow-up questions about how long a location takes to reach somewhere useful.

Would commute time work best as a required thread field, an optional tag, or a search filter? My priority is making local comparisons easier without turning casual posting into a long form, especially on mobile.
 
My initial thought is an optional field rather than a required one. A poster could enter a destination and rough travel time, while everyone else could skip it. The difficulty is consistency: “20 minutes” is not useful unless we also know where to, and possibly the travel mode.
 
I would avoid a free-form tag. We would soon have variations like “20 min,” “20 mins” and “under half an hour,” which would weaken search. A small structured section—destination, mode and approximate time—could feed a filter while remaining optional. On mobile, it should stay collapsed unless the poster chooses to add commute details.
 
There is another complication: when is that journey being measured? A single number can suggest more precision than the poster actually has. I would allow a range and a short context field rather than forcing an exact time. Otherwise moderators may spend more effort correcting tags than members save by searching them.
 
I’m not convinced commute belongs at thread level for every property discussion. One thread may cover several Doha areas or multiple destinations, so one tag could be misleading. It seems better suited to individual listings and tightly focused valuation posts. For broader market reports, searchable place names may still be more useful.

Regional boards may also need different destination choices, so a universal fixed list could become cumbersome.
 
That argues for a limited trial on the Doha board rather than making it compulsory everywhere. Start with an optional “commute details” block on relevant property threads, keep the destination user-entered, and record mode plus a time or range. I would leave old threads untouched; members or moderators could add the field only when an older discussion becomes active again. After the trial, search usefulness and posting friction should be clearer.
