Listing photography available for New York properties

Owners often want a quick photography quote, but I’m reluctant to price a New York property without knowing what the job requires. I’m available for listing work and can provide a written scope covering the images to be delivered, turnaround, fees and anything not included.

For an initial response, please share the property type, approximate location, size, occupancy or access limits, and intended listing date. Before appointing any photographer, compare credentials, insurance, response time and the exact deliverables rather than relying on price alone. Any possible conflict should also be raised before the booking is confirmed.

Could you outline how you normally present the fee structure—fixed, time-based or tailored after the initial review? It would also help to know what information you need before giving a response and whether the written scope specifies delivery timing.

The exact location within the New York area matters too. I would include the property type, approximate size, whether it is occupied, any access restrictions and the intended listing date. Otherwise, two photographers may price very different assumptions and the comparison will not mean much.

I would not overload the first enquiry. A general description and deadline should be enough to establish availability. Before appointing anyone, though, ask for a sample scope format and make sure it identifies the final deliverables, service exclusions, fees and evidence of relevant credentials and insurance.

One item missing so far is how the images may be used. The scope should make clear what is being delivered and the permitted use, rather than leaving both sides to assume. I would also ask what happens if the requested timing changes after the instruction is agreed.

Agreed on getting comparable scopes, but price should not be compared in isolation. Send each provider the same brief and then look at response time, deliverables, exclusions and any additional charges alongside the main fee. If something requested is outside the service, it is better to have that stated before access is arranged.

Nadia, could you clarify what kinds of potential conflicts clients should ask about for a photography engagement? That phrase is sensible, but fairly broad. A brief explanation would help property owners know what they are actually expected to confirm before proceeding.
